Summer Social Ideas

Keeping Connected, a gathering for empty nesters to connect and meet our new lead pastor.

Summer is an awesome time for group socials, and there are a lot more options for them because all the outdoor options are in play.

Here are some of the socials Woodstock City Groups Directors have done in their own small groups over the past couple of years:

  • Pickleball - Several groups have hired Antonio Pullen of dabpickleball.com to put on a Pickleball night. Antonio provides instruction, equipment, and can even help you book courts!

  • Braves Game - You can find the Braves schedule here.

  • Outdoor Game Night - Meet at a local part. Everyone can bring their own dinner, as well as outdoor games like Corn Hole, Kan Jam, or Wiffle Ball.

  • Team Trivia - There are a ton of places to do this around Atlanta.

  • Painting Pottery - All Fired Up Ceramics, near Sandy Plains & Shallowford in Marietta will let you bring your own food. (And yes, the men in our Married Group participated as well!)

  • Family Social at the Pool - This is a great option for groups or parents of elementary and middle school children. Meet at a group member's neighborhood pool and order some pizzas, and everyone can bring a side, dessert, or drinks. This is a fun way to incorporate the kids.

  • Dinner Out - We’ve had socials at Pure Taqueria, La Parilla, 7 Tequilas, Eclipse Azul (sense a theme here?).

  • Backyard BBQ - Fire up the grill (and the citronella candles) and enjoy dinner and a beautiful night together.

  • Indoor Game Night - A great option when you can’t really do stuff outside. Do a potluck dinner, and incorporate some games where everyone can participate, such as guys-vs-gals Fishbowl (this is always a blast). If the hosts have a Nintendo Switch or PlayStation, try downloading one of the Jackbox Party Packs. These are party games where you set up the game using the console, but everyone uses their cell phones to play along.
